How to incorporate bold patterns and sequins into your wardrobe
If you are following me on Instagram, you may have seen that I don’t shy away from bright colours and patters. Stripes, dots, animal motifs…I love them all. I think I’ve always been drawn to everything that is bright, bold and sparkly as I wanted to brighten a boring corporate uniform. I certainly didn’t reserve embellishments and sequins for the festive season.
However, after speaking to a number of clients recently, I’ve noticed that many of you are unsure about how to incorporate bold patterns and sequins into your wardrobe. Hence, this week I window shopped for party wear to give you some inspiration and share simple tips you can use to inject a bit of sparkle and fun to your closet.
Pick your item type carefully
With the festive season round the corner, all womenswear collections feature an abundance of jewels and sequins. However, before you spend your money, take a moment to think about the item you consider buying. Does it suit your lifestyle? Is it versatile? A sequin dress might not suit all occasions. Instead buy an accessory like those Warehouse* tear link earrings as you can wear them all year long.
Wear sequins with basic pieces
Some women steer clear from sequins in a bid to avoid looking like a walking glitter ball. But sequins are not strictly reserved for Christmas. Simply pair your sparkly garment with a low-key piece in a clean-cut. For example, this sequined pencil skirt would look great with a black roll neck and over the knee boots. This is a perfect outfit for a Saturday night outing with friends.
Decide whether the print is classic or not
A few weeks ago, I shared with you a post about how to wear a leopard print. Along with florals and plaid, it is one print that will never go out of fashion. In the example below, I let the statement dress do all the talking by paring it with simple accessories like stud earrings and nude heels.
Assess the colours within a print
If you are new to prints, I recommend choosing those that feature colours which are already in your wardrobe. It will be easier for you to mix and match and you will get much more wear out of your clothes.
Are you going to incorporate bold patterns and sequins into your wardrobe this season?
